Sports Leadership
To reinforce the teaching and learning taking place in curriculum PE and examination PE, Sports Leadership is also offered through Sports Leaders UK accredited courses in Year 10 and Year12. This option can be taken during games lessons and runs over 30 to 35 weeks.
The aim of the course is to develop leadership skills of communication, listening, team work, planning, organising, running and reviewing the safe delivery of physical activities for younger participants.
The course is delivered mainly through practical activities with some classroom preparation and recording of progress. Many pupils bring great confidence to the course because of their own prowess in sports, others bring strong leadership skills of calm, clear instructing.
Pupils are encouraged to thinks of their existing strengths but also to develop areas that will set them in good stead for future work and life skills of successfully leading other people.
During the course we work closely with pupils from our local feeder primary schools coaching activities and running festivals of sport.
