Student Protests

Student Protests

Student protests have been taking place over England and they will end up affecting peoples future carriers, as they will not be able to afford the increasing rising costs that universities are charging. The top universities have announced that they will be charging £9000, the maximum that they can charge. There is due to be another protest in London, 26 March where the NUS will join up with the Trades Union Congress (TUC) where they will march from Victoria to Hyde Park.

We asked some of the sixth formers from Keswick School, here are some of their responses to student protests and if they are now going to reconsider going to university.
Hannah, whom took part in the survey thought that ‘It is a ridiculous idea rising tuition fees because it is putting more students off going to university, therefore leaving the students who can’t afford the fees with nowhere to go.

Richard too, agrees with Hannah, saying that he has had to cancel his gap year to try and avoid the fees changing again.

Luke on the other hand agrees with the tuition fees rising because ‘it will help people reconsider university’ He also says that the rise in fees won’t affect what university he goes to.

Laura also agrees with Luke saying that it will stop people going who weren’t going to go in the first place.
