    GCSE Results 2014

    Keswick School GCSE results smash previous record

    Today Year 11 students are celebrating the best GCSE results Keswick School has ever recorded. 76.4% of students achieved 5 or more A* to C grades including English and Maths, an increase from 73% last year. Maths recorded the most dramatic gains with 89.1% of students achieving an A* to C grade, an increase of more than 6% on last year. 81% of students achieved an A* to C grade in English and 83% of students achieved 5 or more A* to C grades taking traditional GCSE qualifications.

    Keswick School A-level results break previous record

    Students at Keswick School have achieved outstanding A-level results that top the performance of last year’s cohort. The proportion of A* grades has jumped up 9% since last year with over a third of all grades being at A* and A. 39 A* grades were awarded with 16 students achieving three or more A* and A grades. Amongst many exceptional performances eight students achieved an A* grade in Maths and four achieved an A* grade in Further Maths. The overall A*-C % increased to 83% with students studying Geography, German and Government and Politics all achieving 100% A*-C grades and students taking Maths, English Language and English Literature achieving 96%, 95% and 92% A*-C respectively.

    • Admissions for Year 7 Next September 2015 – if you live out of catchment and have a brother or sister who have just started in the last year of junior school in year 6, please come to reception to collect a pack to take home for your parents so that they can make an appointment to look round the school.
    • The Calvert Trust – they are looking for a volunteer DJ to work Thursday evenings from 7-9pm.  If you are interested, please see Mr Radford in the SSC for details.
    • KS3 Textiles Club – starts today (22nd Sept).  If you have signed up please come along to L21 as soon as you have had some lunch.
    • Year 8 Wordsworth House – There will be a table tennis tournament for our house today and tomorrow, if you would like to play please sign up with one of the prefects or on the list outside the office opposite S09.
    • Year 10 – PE revision guides and workbooks £2.50 each available at the finance office.
    • Year 11 – PE revision guides and workbooks £2.50 each available at the finance office.  German revision guides £2.50 available at the finance office.  Maths foundation and higher revision guides £2.00 available at the finance office.
    • Photograph Orders: to be given to finance by no later than 26th September 2014.
    • Year 8 HPV Vaccination Consent Forms: completed forms to be placed in the box in the nurse’s office.
    • Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
      All Current Participants i.e. Year 11 – 13 ONLY:
      Training will start on the 1st/2nd October.  It will run every Wednesday & Thursday in F05 from 3.30 – 4.30pm.  You only need to attend 1 training session per fortnight but can drop in for help/advice at any time.  A full training programme will be on the website soon.
    • Carnegie Club: There are still spaces available for Carnegie Reading Club which starts today in the library at lunchtime.  So if you love reading and would be interested in making some new friends who share your interest, see library staff for more information or to sign up before Thursday.  Open to all ages including staff!  Some refreshments are provided and you are welcome to bring your lunch to eat during the club.
    • Pupil Librarian Vacancy: There is currently a vacancy for a pupil librarian.  This is open to pupils in all year groups, including those who have applied previously.  Information and application forms are available from the library.  Completed application forms must be signed by a parent/guardian and form tutor and returned to the library by Friday 26th September.  Successful applicants will be shortlisted and invited to attend an interview in early October.
    • Great British Make Off Cycling Design Competition: Reminder for those taking part there is an opportunity to meet and share ideas L21 tomorrow at 1pm.
    • Technology Exam Projects: Please come and pick these up.  If you know people who have left, please tell them to come and pick them up, as we need the space for the next year group.
    • Homework club: Every lunch time in SSC (room next to pupil office) come along and help to catch up with homework.
    • Chess Club: in L5 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12.35pm.
