    GCSE Results 2014

    Keswick School GCSE results smash previous record

    Today Year 11 students are celebrating the best GCSE results Keswick School has ever recorded. 76.4% of students achieved 5 or more A* to C grades including English and Maths, an increase from 73% last year. Maths recorded the most dramatic gains with 89.1% of students achieving an A* to C grade, an increase of more than 6% on last year. 81% of students achieved an A* to C grade in English and 83% of students achieved 5 or more A* to C grades taking traditional GCSE qualifications.

    A Level Results 2014

    Keswick School A-level results break previous record

    Students at Keswick School have achieved outstanding A-level results that top the performance of last year’s cohort. The proportion of A* grades has jumped up 9% since last year with over a third of all grades being at A* and A. 39 A* grades were awarded with 16 students achieving three or more A* and A grades. Amongst many exceptional performances eight students achieved an A* grade in Maths and four achieved an A* grade in Further Maths. The overall A*-C % increased to 83% with students studying Geography, German and Government and Politics all achieving 100% A*-C grades and students taking Maths, English Language and English Literature achieving 96%, 95% and 92% A*-C respectively.

    Possible trip to the Velodrome – in Manchester/Glasgow is being organised, please register your interest by signing up outside L21 by the end of this week.

    The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
    Year 12 – Please dry all tents and pack away but hold onto kit so you are ready for your qualifying expedition.  Please attend a short meeting tomorrow at 12.35 in F05.
    Year 11 – Please return all kit on Thursday in F05 at 12.35pm.  Tents need to be completely dry, clean and packed away – not loads of separate bits.  Stoves need to be scrubbed and shiny.  2 x OS maps per group as well as other individual bits.
    Year 9 & 10 – Deadline for returned forms is Thursday 2nd October.  Please leave all completed forms in the box outside pupil reception.  Cumbria County Council Enrolment forms will be handed out on Friday.

    Pupils in Y10 – 13 – Please check your emails as you have been sent important information regarding the current rules and regulations for exams, coursework and controlled assessments, make sure you read them carefully.

    Art & Illustration Club – today lunch in S11, years 8 upwards.  For persons interested in any form of comic art.  Must be fairly confident with pen and pencil sketches, and have some experience with drawing.

    Russian Club – starts today at 12.40pm.  If you are interested please come and see Mrs Jackson in the Library.  We’ll be learning basic Russian in a fun and relaxed atmosphere, through role-play, songs, Russian cuisine and games.

    Dance Club – years 7 – 13 on Thursdays from 3.45 – 4.45 in the chicken hut, see Mrs Westle for more information.

    Air Cadets – will be in Queens Hall tomorrow at lunchtime for Recruitment with a Flight Simulator.

    Glass Club – for KS3 begins tomorrow in S12 at 12.50pm.

    Orienteering Club – will be held on Mondays after school 3.30pm until 4.45pm.  It will start on 5th October meeting on the Terrace.

    Year 10 – PE revision guides and workbooks £2.50 each available at the finance office.

    Year 11 – PE revision guides and workbooks £2.50 each available at the finance office.  German revision guides £2.50 available at the finance office.  Maths foundation and higher revision guides £2.00 available at the finance office.

    Year 11 – GCSE Business Revision books now in stock in the finance office £3.40 each.

    Year 9 & 10 D of E – Please return all application slips to the box outside Pupil Reception.  (Spare copies can also be found in this box if required.)  Cumbria County Council enrolment forms will be issued to all successful applicants over the next few weeks.

    Royal Society of Chemistry – ‘Top of the Bench’ competition.  The regional heat will take place on Friday 7th November at Keswick School.  For the competition we need a team of four students; two from year 9, one from year 10 and one from year 11.  If you are in year 9. 10 or 11 and are interested in taking part in the competition, please see Mrs McDonald (Chemistry) as soon as possible for an information letter and application form.

    Youth Speaks competition – If you are interested in taking part in the competition come to a meeting on Monday 6th October in G04 at 12.35.  The competition is for you if you enjoy speaking, voicing your opinions, like performing or just fancy a challenge.  See Mrs Allport if you want to know more.

    Literacy Leaders – This is the last call for Years 10 – 13 pupils who would like to be reading mentors.  There are sign-up sheets in the SFC and on the literacy noticeboard (outside the English office).  There will be a meeting tomorrow in G04 to explain how the mentoring works and give you your partner information.

    Homework club:  Every lunch time in SSC (room next to pupil office) come along and help to catch up with homework.

    Chess Club: in L5 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12.35pm.
