Record number of Oxbridge offers for Keswick School students

Six exceptional Keswick School Sixth Form students have this week received offers to study at Oxford and Cambridge. The students: Ben Naylor and Joseph Hoyle have been offered places at Jesus College, Oxford to study Engineering Science and German and Persian respectively, Kim Robinson has been offered a place at University College, Oxford to study Maths, Emily Pratt has been offered a place at Emmanuel College, Cambridge to study Natural Sciences (Biological), Matthew Blair has been offered a place at Trinity College, Cambridge to study Chemical Engineering, and Geoffrey Mawdsley has been offered a place at Magdalene College, Cambridge to study Psychology.

Over the past couple of years Keswick School Sixth Form has developed a unique programme of support for Oxbridge applicants. This has included interview preparation, problem solving classes and peer mentoring and support from past students who currently attend the top universities. It has resulted in a carousel of success that the school intends to build on in the future.

We believe this is why Ofsted chose to recognise us in their annual report published in December. Keswick School was one of six case studies in the national report with the Sixth Form being particularly highlighted:

‘The sixth form curriculum is excellent. Sixth formers are particularly well prepared for future employment and higher education through the outstanding programme of study they are given. They take full advantage of the myriad opportunities to take responsibility and consequently make a major contribution to the success of the school.’

Keswick School Sixth Form students have an enviable record of gaining offers at top universities in the Russell and 1994 groups. These offers are in subjects ranging from medicine, veterinary science and engineering to English literature, history and law. The Sixth Form information evening for new students is on Wednesday 21st January. External students are asked to register either via the school website or by contacting the school directly.

Simon Jackson, the Head teacher, said:
‘Keswick School Sixth Form students are confident, mature, focussed and distinctive. This is by design not chance. I am delighted that the majority of our students are accepted on places at the most prestigious universities in the UK. It reflects their great attitude to learning and considerable determination to take up opportunities at school and achieve their potential.’
