Students attending other schools

The Prospectus
This is issued in early December. However we leave the prospectus for the current intake available, which is a good guide if you want to find out about the subjects we offer and about life in the Sixth Form.

Careers Fairs
We are represented at Careers Fairs organized by Inspira in Workington and Whitehaven. We also attend the Next Steps evening held at Beacon Hill School in Aspatria. The best way to find out about Keswick School, however, is to attend the Sixth Form Information Evening held at the school in January.

The Sixth Form Information Evening
This is a very important occasion as it gives you the chance to hear about subjects we offer and to meet the teachers who deliver them. As well as that you will meet many Sixth Form students who will talk to you about subjects and life in the Sixth Form at Keswick School. At the end of the evening we hold a special meeting for students who are new to Keswick School. We shall ask you for your details, including your email address so we can send materials to you and we shall ask you to give an indication of your likely subject choices.

The Sixth Form Information Evening was held on Wednesday 23rd January 2019.  Please click here for a copy of the programme.

The Application Form
Shortly after the Information Evening we establish the option columns for the Sixth Form timetable and publish our application form on the school website: this is available from the link below. We shall also email it to those who attended the Information Evening. We ask you to make your subject choices and write a personal statement. The deadline for applications, which we prefer you to email to us, is in February.

References, Visits and Interviews
Once you apply we shall seek a reference from your current school asking them about your predicted grades and your attitude to learning, behaviour and attendance. You will be invited for a visit to the school during a working school day with at least one parent or guardian. You will have a tour of the school with current students and have an interview with the Head of Sixth Form, or with one of the Sixth Form Year Heads. We feel it is very important you see the school “at work”. Of course we are very keen to hear about your interests and achievements.

Offers of Places
These are usually made in April and we ask you to accept or reject the offer well before your GCSEs. We ask you to confirm your subject choices.

The Induction Day
This is held quite soon after your GCSE exams have finished. The day is mainly subject based and you will attend sessions with each of your subjects, during which you will be given “Bridging Units”: work to be done in preparation for starting A levels: completion of these units is necessary for students to be allowed onto courses. As well as sessions with your subjects you will have a session with Sixth Form staff.

Results Day and the First Day of Year 12
On GCSE results day we ask you to contact us to give us your GCSE results by email or over the phone and we confirm your place if you meet the necessary criteria for your chosen courses. If not, we are available to discuss changes with you (e.g. choosing another subject instead) on GCSE results day and the day following, or between that time and the beginning of school in September. On the first day just Year 12 and Year 7 are in school and you will spend the day registering on your courses, completing the necessary administration for your joining Keswick School and getting involved in some team building activities with your form.
