Young Engineers Buggy Challenge 2014

Our Young Engineers battled it out with the buggies they had designed and built over the last term. Pupils from years 9 & 10 have been building remote controlled vehicles, which could complete an obstacle course, take on a football challenge, try to drive as high up a progressively steeper hill as they could, and drive along an uneven road.

The winners of the year 9 competition, who used an umbilical cord to control the electronics on their vehicle, were ‘J Team’ consisting Ben Hammond, James Mallinson & Jack Downes. The year 10 competition, requiring their vehicles to be controlled by radio control, was won by team ‘Black Kiwi’ consisting Tom Hind, Robert Spedding (and Brady Stone before he returned to New Zealand).

These teams will go through to the inter school competition at Energus in Workington, run by the Cumbria STEM Ambassadors, and sponsored by the West Cumbria Institute of Mechanical Engineers.
