Business Technical Award - Event Operations

The events industry brings in more than £40 billion to the UK economy.  There are over 1 million corporate events every year in over 100,000 venues across the UK.  This shows how vast and diverse the industry is.

This course will be delivered by the Business Studies department and offers pupils the opportunity to study a subject which they have not studied before.  Event Operations will examine the events industry and give learners both a practical and theoretical insight into event management.  Employment in events can range from crowd control to event branding and has huge potential to offer skills that will facilitate students in their future careers or further study.

This is a vocational qualification, which teaches students how the theory mentioned below can be applied to real like business situations.  There will be the opportunity with this programme of study to become involved in extensive project work and practical application of business theory.

If you choose to study Events and Operations you will gain an understanding of the following areas:

  • The structure of the events industry and the factors that affect the success of events;
  • The importance of events complying with regulatory requirements;
  • The importance of customer service;
  • Understanding the role of teams which you will review after participating in an event;
  • Plan an event that meets specific needs.

Students will not be able to choose both GCSE Business Studies and Event Operations due to overlapping content.

This course has two pieces of internally assessed portfolio work and one external exam.  Completing this course is equivalent to one GCSE (9-1).  Pupils will be awarded a level 1 pass, level 2 pass, merit, distinction or distinction*.  Students will complete assignments which will be internally marked.  This course only contains one examined unit, which has a re-sit opportunity.

This course combines well with many other subject areas, it is also a popular course for progression to A level or BTEC level 3 courses.  It also equips students to go on to college courses or apprenticeships.
