One of 32 State Boarding Schools in England and Wales, Keswick School is situated on the edge of the attractive market town of Keswick in the heart of the Lake District National Park, now also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home during term time to many international and local boarders who reside in Lairthwaite Boarding House.

What is a state boarding school?

Simply a boarding school where the education is free but boarding costs are paid for, which makes boarding more affordable for many families.

Who can apply?

Applicants must hold a British Passport, be the dependant of a BN(O) passport holder, have the 'right to remain in the UK' or have an EUSS (European Untion Settled Status)

Lairthwaite Boarding House sits on the edge of the school site within a two minute walk to the main school. Furnished to a very high standard, this co-educational house is designed to meet the needs of up to 52 students aged 11-18 supported by a highly trained team of caring boarding staff with many years of experience. This small boarding community generates a unique family environment and has a very successful formula for creating well-rounded, confident, young people, many of whom return for visits after having left.

We welcome boarders from Britain and overseas. Boarders in residence include students from rural Cumbria, other parts of the UK and those whose parents are working on overseas contracts around the world. The presence of boarders from a wide geographical background provides a stimulating and cosmopolitan contribution to the communal life of both boarding and day pupils at Keswick School.
