Activities & Photos

A busy boarder is a happy boarder!

Taking part in extra-curricular activities and weekend activities not only broadens friendship circles but also allows boarders to develop and learn new skills.  Being busy is proven to help reduce homesickness in the early days.  We have two wonderful house dogs, Venus & Freyja and also 6 hens, all of which, boarders are able to help and care for.

Weekend activities include fell walking, visiting the local cinema, water sports, mini golf, bowling, craft workshops, Laser Quest, to name but a few.  Towards the end of the summer term we have a ‘Big Boarding Week’ where we do an activity every night, ending with a BBQ where everyone who supports the house during the school year is invited.  We take every opportunity we can to explore the Borrowdale Rainforest Natural Nature reserve on our doorstep together with other areas of outstanding beauty.

The school has an excellent reputation for school sports and many boarders represent the school and community clubs in sport areas such as; girls and boys rugby, football, cricket, netball, hockey.  Boarders are also able to join the local town clubs such as archery and judo.

We offer participation in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme and when it is time to move on, we support boarders with preparation for University Life or apprenticeships by visiting open days and teaching the older students how to prepare meals, budget and do their own washing 😊
